VC/PE Industry in Finland 2011
Highlights from the preliminary statistics
- The Finnish private equity firms raised new funds worth 415 million euros (280 M€, 2010), a third of which from foreign institutional investors.
- They invested 358 million euros (410 M€) in domestic and foreign portfolio companies. 77 % of the invested amount were buyout investments, and 23 % so called venture investments.
- 42 % of the invested capital was allocated to buyout stage investments. This equals 151 million euros (194 M€).
- Initial investments accounted for 70 % (59 %) of the total capital invested.
- Investments in cleantech accounted for 14 % (8 %) of the total capital invested.
- The number of investments made was 327 (352), out of which 64 % were venture investments. This corresponds to 210 (241) venture investments. The number of start-up stage investments was 142 (184).
- The value, at cost, of divestments totaled to 337 million euros (219 M€). Sale to another PE player was the most popular divestment method accounting for 68 % of all divestments.
- The total amount of capital under management at the end of 2011 amounted to 5263 million euros (5274 M€).
